Meet Our leadership
All of the Legend Directors have Division I playing experience, several years of professional playing experience and are expected to either be certified or in the process of becoming certified with a nationally recognized coaching organization.
darren mclinton - director
A graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, ViA, Darren McLinton is the 4th all
time leading scorer in program history. A true floor general and master of the point guard position,
Mr. McLinton also possessed a lethal shot and nose for the basket. He led the nation in 3 point field goals made in the 1995-1996 season. A four year letterman playing under coach Charles "Lefty" Driesell, Mr. McLinton led the Dukes to the NCAA tournament and served as the team captain during the 1994-1995 and 1995-1996 seasons.
Mr. McLinton played more than 14 years of professional basketball in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and multiple top level basketball clubs in Europe, South America and the Middle East. In 2009, Mr. McLinton served as an assistant coach and director of player development in the Chinese National Basketball League. He also was head coach for the prestigious Team Takeover AAU Nike circuit teams as well as director of player development at The Bullis School in Potomac, MD.
Mr. McLinton now trains high level Division 1 college basketball players as well as current NBA players in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. Known for his ability to create an intense rhythmic system to develop high level scorers, and fundamentally sound players, Mr. McLinton looks forward to infusing his years of knowledge, network and experience into the success of The DC Legends.
Darren holds the following certifications:
National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Mr. McLinton currently resides in Columbia, MD with this wife Donnea and daughter Darryn.
